Quakenbrück. There was a large crush on Friday afternoon in the “Professor von Klitzing Straße“ in Quakenbrück. More than 600 visitors from the hole North West of Lower Saxony came to Artland region in order to take a look behind the scenes of the new DIL facilities. The employees of the renowned and appreciated research institute presented the new buildings. At several booths, innovative tastings and machine demonstrations were organized.
“We are glad to present our new facilities and opportunities today because usually, a lot of things are taking place in secrecy with regard to our customers‘ interests.“ Dr. Volker Heinz, director of the institute, summarizes his intention for the event. Actually, an open day with a presentation of the entire institute was planned.
However, delays in the construction works around the institute as well as the completion of the campus made it too difficult. For this reason, also the official opening celebration was shifted into 2012. It will take place in the course of a research congress.
Thursday evening, Dr. Heinz already appreciated Prof. Dr. Wanka (minister of science, Lower Saxony) in the new facilities and discussed future plans of DIL.
The minister as well as the visitors of the open day had the opportunity to listen Bernhard Hukelmann’s presentation and learn about various applications of robotic grippers within food processing. Dr. Ute Bindrich, head of the Center of Food Physics presented the new laboratories and demonstrated the opportunities provided by the only scanning force microscope installed in a European research institute. The business division Product Innovations, directed by Dr. Achim Knoch, produced peanut flips with a planetary roller extruder. Dr. Töpfl, head of Process Technologies, offered fresh apple juice produced without additives and heat treatment, having a long shelf life.
In addition, employees such as Dr. Christian Hertel, head of Biotechnology, presented the institute, its structures, tasks, developments as well as future plans.
In the evening, a summer celebrations for all employees was organized as a thank you for their commitment.
