In order to strengthen our “Food Data Group” team, we are looking for a student (m/w/x) willing to from April 2022 or later, do his/her work on
Final Master Thesis or to carry out an Internship
for the topic: “Novel ways of dealing with bioresiduals“

In light of the current wider ecological and, particularly, climate crisis, the topic of circular economy as one of the tools to address environmental issues is gaining momentum. Staying within the planetary boundaries will require optimal use of available resources, which will often require innovative ways of dealing with what are now side streams and wastes.

The work on thesis "Novel ways of dealing with bioresiduals" will initially include comprehensive regional mapping of undervalued, underused or wasted biomasses, as well as literature review of potential of their (improved) utilization. Further, it will include building a model which will recommend possible uses of these materials, and environmental benefits acquired. Finally, the thesis will include life cycle assessment with available and modelled data, measuring and comparing environmental impacts of different waste biomass uses, estimating eventually the most environmentally beneficial options and recommending ways to utilize the biomass in order to achieve optimal resource use

We offer the opportunity to work independently on a 6- to 12-month project in the field of data science in an innovative and exciting environment.

Areas of responsibility
  • Data collection and literature review on side streams and waste streams
  • Modeling use of waste biomasses
  • Measurement and comparison of life cycle assessments of different production paths
Your profile
  • Study of environmental protection, food technology, mathematics, computer science, data science, biology or comparable courses
  • Analytical and systematic thinking ("Life Cycle")
  • Interest in reducing the environmental impact
  • Independent, motivated and team-oriented work
