Strengthening the region and networking throughout Europe Minister Lindemann in dialogue with Dr. Heinz, head of the institute

Quakenbrück. Last Wednesday, Gert Lindemann, Minister for Nutrition, Agriculture, Consumer Protection and Rural Development in Lower Saxony, visited the German Institute of Food Technologies (DIL) in Quakenbrück.

In a press conference Minister Lindemann and Dr. Heinz, head of the institute, talked with journalists and answered questions regarding the use of investments funds for the expansion of the institute and on European prospects. The Minister gave a favorable opinion on everything achieved so far and looks forward to the institute’s future. “We are committed to 9 million consumers in Lower Saxony to supply them with high quality food”, explained Lindemann his enthusiasm.

The future course of the DIL was also on the agenda of the subsequent round of talks where possible ways to support the institute were discussed. For that, another meeting has been agreed between DIL and representatives from the Ministry for Science and Culture and from the Ministry for Nutrition, Agriculture, Consumer Protection and Rural Development.

Another important aspect in the discussions was the establishment of a "Food KIC" (KIC stands for Knowledge and Innovation Community) through the European Institute for Innovation and Technology (EIT). The DIL currently commits itself to establishing a branch office in Lower Saxony. In this context, the Ministry indicated its willingness to support the institute in its efforts to focus on bioeconomy
