PhD / Research associate in 3D-food-printing (m/f)


The German Institute of Food Technologies is located at the heart of Germany’s agriculture and food industry and operates in all fields along food value chain. The research platform Process Engineering focuses on the development and implementation of innovative technologies for the sustainable production of foods. At the interface between materials sciences and applied engineering, we foster the transfer of scientific findings into industrial applications

We offer a multi-facetted and demanding range of work in the area of 3D printing and food engineering. The aim is to investigate the potential of extrusion based 3D printing for the personalized production of foods. A materials sciences approach will be followed to tailor food structure in selected starch and protein based matrices. The work is embedded in a 3-year research project.

Areas of responsibility
  • Research in the area of food processing using 3D printing technology
  • Development of methods for the characterization of food printability
  • Design, execution, documentation and evaluation of experiments
Your profile
  • Master degree in food science, food technology, materials sciences, process engineering or a related discipline
  • Background in food physics and process engineering
  • Fluent in spoken and written English, good knowledge of German is beneficial
  • Strong self-motivation and commitment
  • Being a teamplayer and good communication skills
