Doktorial Student (m/w/d) to work on a project on the topic „Data Scientist / Database Manager for Interoperability Platform“ |
We offer the possibility of independently handling a 2-year project (with the possibility of extension) in the field of data science in an innovative and exciting environment.
Future food systems lack holistic databases and data platform allowing to interchange and operate data for the development of predictive and holistic analytical models.
Development of data plant form for the interoperation of data between different ontologies is the main task for the position within EU funded project GiantLeaps.
The details of the project will be discussed in further consultation.
Then we look forward to receiving your CV and motivation letter as well as the earliest possible starting date, preferably by E-Mail.

Master Thesis on the topic Isolation and characterization of enzyme producing gut microbiota of black soldier fly larvae |
Insects and their gut microbes share a close relationship due to the many beneficial functions performed by the microbes. These functions include the production of enzymes, the detoxification of plant defence compounds and insecticides, the maintenance of the life cycle, host fertility, bioremediation, pest biocontrol, the production of antimicrobial compounds, and the provision of vitamins, amino acids, and lactic acids. Such symbiotic relationships between insects and microorganisms have evolved so that the insects can benefit from the production of key hydrolytic enzymes like amylase, cellulase, lignocellulase, protease, lipid hydrolase, xylanase, pectinase, chitinase, laccase, etc., which aid in the digestion of dietary compounds.

Master thesis on the topic: „Dynamics of black soldier fly (Hermetia illucens) bioconversion system on catering and abattoir waste and their mixture” |
The project deal with the evaluation of the growth of black soldier fly larvae on catering, abattoir wastes and their mixture. Substrate factors that influence treatment efficacy and larval growth will be identified using principal component analysis (FCR, bioconversion, larval dry matter, larval biomass development, development time, survival rate etc), protein and fat development in larval body, as well as microbiological analysis for feed safety of insect meal.
The understand of black soldier fly larval development on the animal origin organic wastes and insect meal safety in feed and food is important to promote their incorporation in wide range of food and feed product
