On October 23, the Campus Prize of the Association of the Food Industry (VdEW) was awarded during the Food Future Day held at the Haste Campus of Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences. This prize honors outstanding project and thesis work in the fields of food and nutrition sciences.
Among the six nominees, the three winners were chosen by the jury and the audience:
1st Place (700 EUR) went to Lea Wittmann for her bachelor’s thesis on the development of hollow stalk formation in broccoli in relation to the level and distribution of nitrogen supply.
2nd Place (300 EUR) was awarded to Luisa Sophie Hörnschemeyer for her bachelor’s thesis on utilizing a byproduct from bio-wheat starch production to produce a xanthan-rich food additive through microbial processes.
3rd Place (200 EUR) went to Erik Hömmen for his master’s thesis, a research and development project applying generative AI models to the creation of food packaging designs.
Congratulations to all the award winners! We wish them every success in their future careers. Our gratitude goes to the VdEW, which has sponsored the prize for 14 years, and to Ms. Annika Hiller, a long-standing jury member who presented the awards in person.
