For many years now, DIL develops and constructs production machines and equipment for its members and other customers. Companies such as Dr. Oetker and Kemper are already taking advantage of this globally unique service. The in-house development team at DIL handles the mechanical construction as well as the control technology itself. Added to this, all metal works can be done directly in the DIL workshops. In the past months the machinery and equipment were significantly expanded and modernized. Currently the following machines, equipment and production technologies are available:

Modern sheet metal forming
The existing machine tools were modernized by a new hydraulic plate shear and a high speed mechanical press brake. The new tools operate with latest CNC technology thus ensuring the production of high quality metal sheet products.

Comprehensive welding equipment
Besides the conventional manual welding machines, the partially mechanized orbital welding station ORBITEC Tigtronic 160 is available. Analogously to the WIG process (Wolfram Inert Gas), the welding arc is rotated on an orbit around a static workpiece (around an object such as a pipe). The mechanization of the welding process ensures high reproducibility at minimum error rate. The pulsed technology used in combination with latest inverter technology and a microprocessor or PC control provides for the controlled mastering of the weld pool in any position. Added to this, several manual WIG and E-welding units, a stud welding machine and a spot welding gun are available at DIL. They can be used for different welding tasks.

Boring and drilling machines
Several processing centers are available for the manufacture of complex, three-dimensional work pieces. The machinery has been expanded lately by another CNC-controlled vertical processing center. Such automated equipment improves the precision of the workpieces. The reduction of the processing times also improves the profitability significantly.

Further equipment at DIL include several metalworking lathes for different tasks as well as special machines and smaller equipment.

CAD systems
The engineers and technicians use modern 2D/3D CAD systems for their technical drawings and documents. This improves the development processes significantly. The CAD models are also used as input data for the control of the CNC machines.

The electrical engineering division is also characterized by a comprehensive service.

Equipment for the manufacture of switchgears
Our control cabinets are produced individually or in small production series according to VDE, EN, UL, EMV and machine guidelines, construction guidelines by several classification bodies (GL, BV, DNV, etc) and different IP degrees of protection.

A comprehensive selection of equipment for electronics production is also available.

Software development
For the implementation of complete equipment solutions, the entire range of machine controls such as PLC, bus systems with decentralized periphery, visualization systems and servo drives will be developed.
Software for controls, regulations and display are developed and commissioned at DIL. Different programming software is applied, for example Microsoft Visual-Studio, PC-based software (C, Pascal and Basic), Delphi (PC-based), Simatic STEP7 (SIEMENS SPS Software), SIMATIC WINCC (SIEMENS visualization software), different compilers for micro-processor and micro-controllers.

CAD/CA Engineering Systems
Modern software systems are used in engineering as well. EPLAN electric P8, for example, is used for project planning, documentation and management of automation projects.

Test facilities
An H+H Type BK 130 station for the testing of insulating strength in the high voltage range up to 130 kV AC is also available. The verification of electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) among others is done with a Rohde & Schwarz FSH 4 measuring unit. Furthermore, units for the monitoring of the requirements according to the Low Voltage Directive of the EU (protective measures according to VDE0701/0702) are also available at DIL.

Conclusion
The mechanical engineering and electrical engineering service of DIL is characterized in particular by an interdisciplinary exchange with other divisions at DIL and the resulting implementation of new developments into machines for direct use in food production. The hygienic design expertise from the DIL division Food Safety is providing for decisive benefits in the development of tailor-made prototypes.
