Cooperation with growth market Russia expanded
The German Institute of Food Technologies (DIL) and the All-Russian Meat Industry Research Institute (VNIIMP) start joint activities
The Russian market is not only constantly growing; it also offers a large possibilities especially in the fields product development and food technology. This may be beneficial for many small and medium sized food enterprises from Germany. The DIL is strengthening its activities in Russia which will also smooth the way for the German industry.
The international conference on innovative meat technology took place in Moscow on 8 December 2010 on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the All-Russian Meat Industry Research Institute (VNIIMP). Apart from many guests from the science field, from politics, industry, the press media and foreign countries, the German Institute of Food Technologies (DIL) was also invited. The research institute from Quakenbrück was asked to introduce some processing technologies researched at the DIL, in particular the ones used for the targeted modification of the structure of meat products and the preservation of meat products, to the 200 high-ranking participants. The processes introduced in the lecture, namely high pressure and shock wave technologies, encouraged strong interest among the participants. This was substantiated in vivid discussions during the subsequent reception.
At the fringe of the ceremonial setting at the conference, VNIIMP and DIL signed a cooperation agreement which is the basis for the future cooperation of both institutes.
At first, an exchange of scientists will take place early this year with the objective to test the technologies established at the DIL for the Russian market and to introduce them directly to Russian meat producers. More events will follow, for example, a German-Russian meat technology seminar in Quakenbrück, scheduled for the autumn of 2011. This event will provide an opportunity for German companies to establish ties with the meat industry in Russia.
Added to that, both institutes will start mutual practice-oriented projects to support the development of new technologies in meat processing. One project will be the high pressure treatment of meat products including storage stability and quality tests. Furthermore, the use of pulsed electrical fields for the decontamination of pig blood and for improving the storage stability of meat products will be researched. Another focus will be placed on the influence of electro-hydraulic shock waves for the tenderization of beef meat and the degradation of biological tissue.
The cooperation with the Moscow Institute VNIIMP, one of the largest research institutes in the world in the field of meat technology that is strongly tied to the Russian food industry, supports the aim of the DIL, namely to expand its activities on the Russian market. Organized as registered association and by now carried by 130 member companies, the DIL sees its chance to position itself as a mediator for the transfer of technology and knowledge while acting as “door opener” for the German industry and promoting the high quality of a technology “made in Germany”.
In November 2009, the DIL has already started a cooperation with EURODON, Russia’s market leader in poultry meat that focuses on technological issues and quality management in meat processing which will also result in concrete projects.
