IFFA 2010 in Frankfurt am Main

Leading international trade fair for processing, packaging and sales in the meat industry from 8 to 13 May 2010

The German Institute of Food Technologies (DIL), from Quakenbrück, Germany, will use the IFFA as platform to introduce its comprehensive services and research topics as well as current developments and projects to the meat industry. The mission of the Institute is to support food companies in their efforts to increase their efficiency and improve their competitiveness in many ways.

Besides product design and process development, the Institute’s portfolio includes the manufacture of industrial equipment, food analysis and quality management. Research topics of the DIL such as food structure and functionality, biotechnology and robotics are also increasingly attracting the interest of the food industry. The know-how and experience from all these fields are incorporated in the individual cooperation with industrial companies; this also includes the putting of fundamental research results into practical solutions.

The DIL is focusing on the highly competitive meat industry. In this field the success is based on the combination of traditional processes with new technologies and approaches. This opens new ways for the development of advanced products and for customizing existing products to meet changing consumer demands.

The use of functional starter cultures, for example, allows the development of health-oriented products. Based on the existing scientific background, possible applications for ingredients and additives are modified and further developed for the meat industry. The use of high pressure technology renders the cold processing of a liver sausage possible. Improvements in process efficiency under consideration of automation and hygienic design are also gaining significance. Examples for developments initiated by the DIL include innovative meat suction devices, created specifically for the meat industry, which enable the precise and hygienic handling of unpacked meat.

In addition to the cooperation within the scope of industrial contract works, there is also the opportunity to obtain public funds for development work within the scope of fundamental research.

All experts from the DIL will be available at the stand (hall 4.1, stand A90). Please contact Dieter Albers, Technology Manager Meat (d.albers@dil-ev.de) to arrange for an appointment.

DIL is also co-organizer of the IFFA “Meat Vision Conference” where latest research findings from the production of meat and meat products will be presented. Venue: Room “Symmetry” in hall 8.1.
