FAEN “Network Food”

Food and Health - Can blue potatoes protect from cancer and is bread able to lower one’s blood cholesterol?

Within the scope of the “Network Food”, on 27 May 2009, FAEN will conduct a symposium on the topic “Food and Health - Can blue potatoes protect from cancer and is bread able lower one’s blood cholesterol?” It will take place at the University of Veterinary Medicine in Hanover. Functional food are food products with added health value. Offered especially by large food groups, they are currently predominately found in the dairy and the fat and oil sectors.

Within its “Network Food”, FAEN will provide an opportunity for small and medium-sized enterprises from the potato, delicatessen, baked goods, meat and processed meat industries as well as for suppliers of spices and processing aids to participate in the development of functional food products together with leading research institutes. This includes the joint handling of certain projects from product idea, product development and consumer research to clinical studies for the substantiation of health claims.

Within the scope of this symposium, the current state of different projects will be introduced and further steps discussed. New network participants willing to implement results and findings into actual projects are welcome to join at any time. After the symposium, interested firms and developers will be able to assess more precisely as to whether it makes sense to cooperate in such innovative and promising development projects.

The competence of the research institutes in Lower Saxony is combined in the “Network Food - From high quality raw materials to healthy food” and aims at promoting the research activities in this field while also improving the competitiveness of the food industry.

FAEN is the abbreviation of Forschungsverbund Agrar- und Ernährungswissenschaft Niedersachsen (Research collaboration in agricultural and nutritional science in Lower Saxony)
